Penryn made the trip up to Bude on Sunday. Despite a convincing win against Bude 2 weeks previously Penryn were not taking anything for granted. The wind was whipping across the exposed pitch making playing conditions very challenging. Penryn kicked off and put Bude under pressure straight from the start. The first 15 minutes was a bruising encounter with both teams defending well and making big hits. Penryn were penalised for being off side on several occasions giving Bude the opportunity to get into penryns half. After some good running rugby Penryn’s fly half Sarah Stovell crossed the line scoring the first try. Claire Thompson converted. Penryn again were penalised for being off side and this allowed Bude to get into penryns 22. Kayleigh Callaway making some excellent tackles and the forwards putting pressure on at the rucks the ball soon came back penryns way. An excellent counter attack lead to Lauren Chenoweth scoring in the corner. Penryn soon turned the ball over again and Kayleigh Callaway scored penryns third try. Penryn gathered the restart and after several phases Sarah Baggs made a break on the half way line and had the pace to go all the way. Penryn lead at half time 22 0. The weather took a turn for the worst in the second half with heavy rain and hail. Penryn adapted to these conditions well keeping the ball tight within the forwards and going through the phases. Clare Mathews was next to cross the line with a well worked try. Bude never gave up and were a threat with ball in hand all afternoon. Claire Thompson was next to score with a fabulous solo effort! With the rain still pouring down Clare Mathews and Lauren Chenoweth crossed for their second tries of the game Lauren converting her try. Penryns forwards worked tirelessly all afternoon creating the ball for the backs and again scrum half ro Gomez and fly half Sarah Stovell working together brilliantly. Kayleigh Callaway scored penryns final try and converted it herself. Final score Penryn 51 Bude 0. Forward of the match was Katie Pascoe. Playing her First full game in several years and she played outstandingly well. Back of the match was Sarah Baggs who was fantastic in defence and attack. A special mention must go to Jessica Howell. She has captained penryn ladies for several years and has now decided to step down from the role at the end of the season. She has done so much for the team on and off the pitch and I can honestly say we would not be in the position we are today without her. Thank you spew! Well played to the whole team it was a well deserved win. ❤🖤❤
