Penryn Girls U13s

You are the future of Cornish girls rugby!

All new players of all experiences welcome

Penryn Rugby's girls section train on Tuesdays from 6:30-8pm at the club or next-door Penryn College's STP, and we're always open to new faces to join in the fun! The U13s age band is open to U12s players as well, although we are also happy to welcome U11s for non-contact training with their future team-mates. The U13s train with the U18s and U15s for non-contact training games whilst separating for contact sessions and selected skill zones, and whilst the older players make great role models for the emerging youngsters, the U13s often have more than a trick or two to teach their elders!

Fun is the number one goal at training, providing a safe and enjoyable environment for the girls to develop their skills, make new friends, stay fit, become more confident, learn to support each other both on and of the field, and experience a sport which will continue to provide that same fun and social network long into adulthood.

Core Values

As with the whole of Penryn Rugby, our core values as a team are:

  • Teamwork
  • Respect
  • Enjoyment
  • Discipline
  • Sportsmanship
  • Loyalty
  • Friendship

These core values are at the heart of everything that we do together - whether it be on the training pitch, on matchdays or any of our social events.

Penryn Girls U13s play an RFU 12-a-side version of the game designed as a great introduction to most of the facets of the game which will be unfamiliar to those who have not played contact rugby before, whilst giving those girls who have graduated from the Minis section an ideal platform to hone existing individual skills and work on the support play that is the bedrock of the 15-a-side game. The girls play a number of friendly fixtures throughout the regular season. Along with these friendlies, Cornish rugby provides a number of Pitch Up and Play sessions where the U13s are mixed into teams alongside girls from other local clubs. This helps Cornish clubs with smaller girls sections to give game time to their players whilst they continue to grow their numbers, and helps build friendships between girls at different clubs as well.

Penryn Girls U13s making old rugby players look rubbish on the beach

Then come the summer Penryn's rugby girls pack the beach bags and head to the seaside, getting stuck into the vibrant Cornish beach rugby scene! Our youngest girls get the chance to combine with their older clubmates into one super-team to take on men, women, boys and other girls at the various tag rugby tournaments which occur across Cornwall's beaches.

Penryn Girls fully supports the RFU's Half Game Rule: all of our girls will get to enjoy at the very least half a game, no matter what the relative abilities of the players. Furthermore, we also commit to making sure that our sides are always as balanced as possible: there are no A teams and B teams, only Penryn and we either win together or learn together!

Get Involved

  • Perhaps you've been playing Minis rugby at another club which doesn't cater for girls rugby?
  • Perhaps you played tag rugby at primary school and want to take the next step?
  • Perhaps you've started rugby at secondary school and want to play even more?
  • Or perhaps you just don't see why boys should have all the fun?!

Our door is always open to new players, and training sessions are free: just contact us in advance and bring your boots, water bottle and a gum shield.

As well as eager new players we are always searching for volunteers to assist both with the current coaching team and our supporting committee! If you are a existing coach, parent or interested in getting involved in coaching, please do get in touch.
