Penryn Rugby's long-standing girls section train on Tuesdays from 6:30-8pm at the club or next-door Penryn College's STP, and are always looking for new players to come and join us. The U18s age band is open to U16s and U17s players as well.
The emphasis is always on fun, providing an enjoyable environment for the girls to develop their skills, make new friends, stay fit, become more confident, learn to support each other both on and of the field, and experience a sport which will continue to provide that same fun and social network long into adulthood.
As with the whole of Penryn Rugby, our core values as a team are:
These core values are at the heart of everything that we do together - whether it be on the training pitch, on matchdays or any of our social events.
The Penryn Girls U18s play a number of fixtures throughout the regular season. Along with friendlies, Cornish rugby provides a number of Pitch Up and Play sessions where the girls are mixed into teams alongside girls from other clubs. This helps Cornish clubs with smaller girls sections to continue to grow their numbers, and helps build friendships between girls at different clubs as well.
Plus when the summer comes the fun doesn't stop! Penryn participates fully in the Cornish beach rugby scene, which sees our girls of all three age groups combine into one super-team to impress against all ages and genders at the tag rugby tournaments which occur across Cornwall's beaches.
Penryn Girls support the RFU's Half Game Rule: all of our girls will get at least half a game, no matter what the relative abilities of the players. Furthermore, we also commit to making sure that our sides are always as balanced as possible: there are no A teams and B teams, only Penryn and we either win together or learn together!
Our door is always open to new players, and training sessions are free: just contact us in advance and bring your boots and a gum shield.
As well as players we are always searching for volunteers to assist both with the current coaching team and our supporting committee! If you are a existing coach, parent or interested in getting involved in coaching, please do get in touch.
