On Remembrance Sunday Penryn Ladies gathered at The Memorial Ground to play Totnes Ladies. After a few late withdrawals Penryn Ladies had to reshuffle the team. Totnes Ladies only had 13 travel down so Penryn Ladies dropped both flankers to match numbers.
Respectfully 2 minutes silence was held at the start of the game to remember all those who sacrificed their lives so we could have a better future.
Penryn Ladies received the first kick off, with Totnes Ladies defence being strong, Penryn Ladies found themselves going backwards. Totnes Ladies where dominant in all areas for the first 10 minutes forcing Penryn Ladies to work hard for their opening score, which came from Steph Trapp running it in under the posts. With Penryn Ladies settling into the game more tries followed. Credit to Totnes Ladies who never gave up and still defended well throughout. Penryn Ladies went in for half time with a comfortable lead.
The Second half started how the first half finished with Penryn Ladies running in some well worked tries. A few injuries saw Totnes drop to 11 players and Penryn Ladies sportingly lent players to allow rugby to be played. Beth Hampton and Claire Thompson were very sporting and put on the blue shirts for Totnes Ladies, with their impact being noticeable straight away with Totnes Ladies playing some excellent running rugby. They were rewarded with a well deserved try in the corner. Penryn Ladies came back fighting and finished on a high scoring a further 3 tries. The final score was 72-5 to the home team. Forward of the match was Chantal Watson, who carried very well all game, creating space and offloading quick ball. Back of the match went to Oz Brazier playing her first game of the season on the wing, making several good runs and putting in some great hits.
A massive well done to all Penryn Ladies players, it was a great team performance and a well deserved victory.
Penryn Ladies will travel to Crediton Ladies next Sunday, hoping to continue their winning start to the season.
