Penryn RFC

29 - 0

(HT 0-0)

Devonport Services RFC

Penryn Ladies welcomed Devonport Services Ladies to the Memorial Ground on Sunday. The wind was howling and the pitch was very wet, Penryn Ladies knew it was going to be a hard afternoon against table leaders Devonport Services Ladies.

Penryn Ladies received the kickoff and played into the strong wind.  Devonport Services Ladies defended very well, Penryn Ladies were going through the phases but not making much ground. With the bad weather conditions it stopped Penryn Ladies backs playing the running rugby they usually play. Every time Devonport Services Ladies got the ball they kicked the ball long down the field. With Devonport Services Ladies winning the territory game, Penryn Ladies needed to change tactics. The forwards kept the ball in tight working it up the field then unleashing the backs. Lauren Chenoweth having a fine game in the backs, breaking the line on several occasions resulting in tries.

At half time Penryn Ladies were leading 12-0. With the wind behind them in the second half Penryn Ladies moved the ball around a bit more, with big tackles going in from both sides. Penryn Ladies forwards were dominant in the scrums and the backs started to create space with their well worked moves. Ro Gomez scored Penryn Ladies last try out on the wing. This was Ro’s last game for Penryn Ladies before she moves away. Ro will be missed by the whole team and we all wish her well on her travels.

Devonport Services Ladies put together one last attack but Penryn Ladies defence stood strong.

The final score was Penryn Ladies 29 Devonport Services Ladies 0.

Forward of the match went to Martha Simons who put in a great shift today! Back of the match went to our very own Captain Lauren Chenoweth, running in 4 awesome tries!

This tops off an excellent year for Penryn Ladies who head into the Christmas break unbeaten.

Penryn Ladies are also saying goodbye to Leona Hughes who is also leaving us after Christmas. She has had an excellent debut season for Penryn Ladies, who will miss her very much next year.
