With storm Dennis battering the South West, Penryn Ladies asked to reschedule their game away to Devonport Services Ladies, and considering most games through out the country had been postponed we thought it was an acceptable request. Although after last seasons unsporting behaviour it came to no surprise from them refusing to reschedule. So with the rain pouring and 60mph winds Penryn Ladies set off on their journey to Plymouth. The game was played on the Keyham 4G pitch and with no referee wanting to take charge as they thought it was too dangerous with the storm, Devonport Services Ladies very own coach stepped in.
From the very first kick off Penryn Ladies knew they were going to be up against it as every advantage and penalty went to Devonport Services Ladies. Every time Penryn Ladies gathered any momentum there was a penalty to Devonport Services Ladies.
Credit has to be given to Devonport Services Ladies as they worked hard on their game play, playing hard and fast. Penryn Ladies worked hard to keep in Devonport Services Ladies 22 but couldn’t make it over the try line. With an advantage Devonport Services ran in a try nearing the end of the first half, which gave them the fight to keep pushing us back. Penryn Ladies never gave up, sticking together very well, fighting hard to the end, doing the Borough proud. Unfortunately a few unfair decisions prevented Penryn Ladies getting over the line.
The score finished 8-0 to Devonport Services Ladies.
After 1 defeat in the season Penryn Ladies are sitting proudly at the top of the league table with 2 points clear.
A massive well done to all players for keeping their cool and playing hard against all odds!
back of the match went to co-captain Lauren Chenoweth, who played with heart and soul and kept the team fighting until the end. Forward of the match went to Maariyah Najeeb (Marz) for her hard work and determination throughout the game.
Onward to our next game away to Totnes Ladies, Sunday 23rd February.
