It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the death of Gerry McKeown, on 15th May.

Gerry was a prominent part of the Penryn side that dominated Cornish rugby in the late 60s and 70s. As a player he possessed a rare turn of speed and an instinctive rugby brain. Adding to that his irrepressible character, Gerry was an open side wing forward of rare talent.

Gerry played many times for Cornwall including being part of the side that narrowly lost to Lancashire in the County Cup Final in 1969. His performances for Cornwall earned him a full England trial at the age of just 19.

A Penryn boy and a one club man, Gerry was a very special player.

Our condolences to Gerry’s wife Annette and family.

RIP Gerry.
