The 2019-20 season may be long gone and details of 2020-21 unclear, but it didn’t stop the Borough getting together on Friday night for the mens senior presentation evening. Held at the extremely popular Dugout Bar and following stringent social distancing and COVID-19 secure protocols, it was a fabulous evening looking back on last season’s success.

The boys enjoyed a few beers, a superb Indian spread from local caterers BLT and entertainment from club Will Keating. Of course though, the evening was about celebrating last seasons successes and awards for the players and other key members at Penryn RFC.

The Saracens enjoyed a superb campaign, with regular fixtures and a deep playing squad with many first team regulars buying into the whole club ethos to represent either side. Paul Saberton collected the most points and most tries awards, while Jack Truen and Harry Medlin received the most appearances and coaches player of the season award respectively. Aaron Cockrell, who will be the Saracens co-captain in 2020-21, was voted as Saracens players player of the season.

In the first team, a hugely successful first year back in Western Counties was also duly celebrated. Departing players Steele Barker and Sam Carter were the recipients of the most appearances and most points awards, while Ryan Burley received the most improved player award, after battling back from a serious injury. Josh Chambers retained his most tries of the season award, with Chris Hellier named coaches player of the year and Kyle Bradley the players player of the year.

There was a new award this season too, with Gareth Wills collecting the ‘better people, better Borough’ award having returned to train and play at the club and offering a fantastically generous sponsorship gesture to some of our players. Jamie Truen was named clubman of the year after another year of relentless hard work and countless hours put into the club, including the creation of our fantastic new bar and the organisation of what was a superb night.

Director of Rugby, Marek Churcher, said “ It was a great evening for everyone Involved in the club, showing what a great atmosphere there is currently at the Borough. For those who won awards they were duly deserved with a mix of both youngsters and senior players receiving them. A special mention must go to Jamie Truen, who received the clubman of the year award and organised the evening to make it possible for everyone to celebrate last season. Hopefully we will be back up and running again soon."
